A CSX Practitioner certification signifies a learner’s capability to act as an initial responder in the event of a cyber incident. This involves following established procedures and defined processes, primarily dealing with known issues on a single system. Learners will demonstrate proficiency in firewall management, patching, and antivirus measures, along with the ability to implement common security controls, conduct vulnerability scans, and perform some analysis.
The Cybersecurity Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance (CGRC) program will offer three hands-on training courses to impart the skills necessary for the CSX Practitioner level. Each of these courses spans five days and combines lectures with practical exercises, accounting for at least 50% of the training in a virtual cyber lab environment.
CSX | PRACTITIONER LEVEL 1: IDENTIFICATION AND PROTECTION
The initial course in this series focuses on fundamental cybersecurity skills, providing practical instruction in the Identify and Protect domains. Topics covered include preliminary network scanning and the implementation of security controls. Through the completion of multiple lab-reinforced modules, learners will acquire the ability to apply industry-developed, experience-based techniques to identify critical networks and develop appropriate protective measures using fundamental concepts, methods, and tools associated with cybersecurity controls.
CSX | PRACTITIONER LEVEL 2: DETECTION
The second course delves deeper into skills related to the Detect domain. Learners will gain knowledge of essential concepts, methods, and tools used to utilize cybersecurity controls for identifying system events and incidents at a non-event level. Through multiple lab-reinforced modules, learners will develop the skills required to detect potential network events and incidents. Topics include incident packet analysis, incident response report drafting, and generation.
CSX | PRACTITIONER LEVEL 3: RESPOND AND RECOVER
The final course in the Practitioner series delivers hands-on training in the Respond and Recover domains. Backed by course lectures and lab exercises, learners will learn how to apply professional methodologies to respond to and recover from network incidents or disasters. This includes event containment, asset and infrastructure protection, and understanding the components and procedures necessary for a comprehensive incident response plan.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
While related courses are not mandatory to take the exam, they are recommended.
